Personal Assistant for 17-Year-Old Girl in Umeå

The Disability Care Services in Umeå Municipality aims to be a resource that liberates and strengthens people's ability to live an independent life.

Individuals under 65 years old with disabilities and extensive support needs can apply for personal assistance. A personal assistant helps someone with basic needs, such as eating, dressing, washing, and communicating. The assistance is individually tailored to provide increased opportunities for individuals with disabilities to live an independent life.

The Assignment

We are looking for someone who, with confidence, clarity, and a great deal of creativity, wants to create a valuable everyday life for a 17-year-old girl with a rare chromosomal anomaly, intellectual disability, and autism. The assignment is based in the girl's home in Sävar, where she lives with her parents and siblings. Depending on what you plan for the day, it can continue both at home and on various outings. You will guide the day together with the user.

Job Responsibilities

Your job responsibilities will be to help and lead the user through the day. By working with structure and clear pedagogical methods, you will assist the user at home but also plan and accompany them on activities and outings. You will create order and clarity for the user, and together with parents and school, you will maintain routines while also finding new methods when necessary to ensure the best possible functioning of daily life.

The user has a big heart and a great deal of charm, and enjoys having things happening around her. She likes music, games, fun, and various outings. There will be plenty of opportunities for calm and cozy moments together. You will become an important person in the user's life and in the family's daily routine.

The work includes managing the user's emotions, which you will do with empathy, respect, and a low-arousal approach. You will act as a stress regulator, remaining calm and focused in situations where the user does not understand their feelings.

About You

We are looking for someone who also has a big heart and a strong commitment to children and young people. You who want to help develop another person's life and daily routine and see this assignment as something long-term since security and relationships are very important for the user.

The assignment requires you to be proactive and inventive when it comes to activities. You are creative and enjoy fun antics. The user needs your full focus, and you need to stay one step ahead. You have patience and can switch between structure and flexibility to create transitions to the next activity or help the user with their feelings. You are a stable point for the user, possess good judgment, and personal maturity.

It is desirable if you have education in pedagogy, social work, or are trained as a support pedagogue. Having experience working as a resource in schools, work experience, or personal experience with children with intellectual disabilities and autism is a plus.

The user is only considering female applicants for the assignment.

Scheduled working hours: afternoons after school, evenings, and weekends/holidays.

A driving license (B) is required, as well as access to your own car.

Due to the law on suitability checks, a police record extract must be presented upon employment.
